What does the Money Market app allow me to do?
The Money Market app allows you to perform daily transactions such as buying airtime and electricity, paying for goods in-store and buying, sending or receiving saving stamps.
What are favourites on my app's home screen?
Favourites are the app features you use most regularly. You can add or remove favourites under Your Profile.
Where can I read the Money Market T&Cs?
After signing in to your Money Market Account, you can view the terms and conditions under Your Profile.
Do I need a bank account to use the Money Market app?
Your Money Market Account does not require a bank account. You can top up your account at your nearest Shoprite or Checkers at the cashier or Money Market.
Will I earn interest on money kept in my Money Market Account?
No interest is earned on your Money Market Account, however, you save money with no monthly or transaction fees when topping up your account, sending money, buying airtime and electricity or paying for your groceries at any Shoprite, Shoprite LiquorShop, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Checkers LiquorShop, Usave and Knect. Can I share access to my Money Market Account with friends or family?
No. Your Money Market Account holds personal and transactional information and should be used solely by yourself.
Can I still transact using the USSD channel?
Yes, please dial *120*3534# and follow the prompts to register or sign in to your Money Market Account.

Registration
I did not receive my one-time PIN (OTP) after entering my details at registration.
If you did not receive the OTP, please start the registration process again.
How many Money Market accounts can I have?
Each person may hold only one Money Market Account and you can not share an account with anyone else.
Who can register for a Money Market Account?
Anyone who is over the age of 18 with a valid South African phone number and RSA ID or Passport number can register.
How do I register for my Money Market Account?
You can register in three easy ways:
1. Dial *134*3534# and follow the prompts.
2. Take your RSA ID and mobile phone to your nearest Shoprite or Checkers Money Market and register in-store.
3. Download and install the Shoprite app to complete your registration.
I can't download the app with my iPhone
Apple's regulations require our app to run on Apple's iOS 13 operating system. Please check the version on your iPhone under Settings > General > About. You'll see the version number to the right of the “Version” entry on the About page. Unfortunately, iPhones that cannot run iOS 13 will not be able to install the Money Market app.
My Information
How do I change my mobile number?
Sign in to your Money Market Account, go to your Profile section and edit your mobile number under My Details. You can also change your details in-store at any Money Market counter with your RSA ID or Passport number and your phone.
Is my information safe on the app?
Absolutely. Shoprite takes your right to privacy seriously and we constantly work to keep our systems and processes up to date with the latest in security standards, policies and procedures. Your PIN acts as an additional safety measure so please keep it safe don't share it with anyone.
Will Shoprite share my personal and financial information with 3rd parties?
Shoprite Holdings consists of a group of companies. We use your data with the sole purpose of improving our products and services to you and will never share or sell your information with any companies outside our group for unsolicited marketing purposes.
How do I manage my personal information?
You can manage your personal and contact information via the My Account section in the app. Please ensure that your details are always up to date for important communications from us.
Fees and Limits
Are there any transaction fees when using the app?
There are no monthly or transaction fees when using the Money Market app or USSD string. Note that you will require data to use the app and airtime to use the USSD string.
How do my daily limits and balances work? (What are the limitations on my account?)
Your Money Market Account limits are as follows:
R25 000: Maximum account balance.
R5 000: Total of all transactions per day.
R5: Minimum send amount.
Airtime: Min - R2, Max - R1000
Electricity: Min - R10, Max - R1000
Can I increase my limits?
No. Unfortunately your limits cannot be increased or decreased.
Block Account
I have lost my phone and need to block my account and move to a new number.
Please contact our Help Centre or take your RSA ID or Passport together with your new phone to any of our Money Market counters for assistance.
Buy Prepaid
I did not receive my voucher number after purchasing airtime or electricity.
Sign in to your Money Market Account, go to Buy Prepaid and View Voucher History to access your vouchers. If the voucher does not show, please go to Transaction History on the Home Page to view whether a payment was made for the voucher. If the payment was made, please contact our Help Centre for further assistance.
Can I still view my store leaflets for my preferred store?
You will be able to view store leaflets by going to My Store Specials in the app.
How do I set a new Money Market Account PIN?
You can set your Money Market Account PIN when you first sign up. You can also change your PIN under your Your Profile or have it changed at any Money Market counter.
Send Money
Can I send money to someone outside of South Africa?
You can only send money to valid South African phone numbers.
I sent savings stamps to someone but the person never received them.
Sign in to your Money Market Account, go to My Transaction History to verify that the money was sent. If the money was sent but has not been used then it will be paid back into your account after x days?
Can I get a refund if I sent savings stamps to the wrong number?
If the money was sent to the wrong number and used by that person we can unfortunately not refund you. Please always ensure that you enter the correct recipient's details when transacting.
I sent someone saving stamps, but now I want to cancel the transaction.
Unfortunately, once you have received confirmation that the saving stamps have been sent there is no way to cancel the transaction.
Can I send money to someone who doesn't have the app? (How do I send/ receive money?)
Yes. With your Money Market Account you will be able to send money to anyone with a valid South African mobile number and RSA ID. Recipients without a Money Market Account will receive a token via SMS that they can use at their nearest Shoprite or Checkers Money Market to receive their money in minutes.
Top Up Account
How do I top up my Money Market Account?
You can top up your account at any Shoprite or Checkers till or Money Market counter. After signing in to your Money Market Account on USSD or App, select Top Up Account. You will see an 8-digit token which you need to take to the store with your cash.
I deposited my cash at the till, but it is not reflecting in my app wallet.
If you have deposited money at the till and it's not reflecting in your account, please go to My Transaction History to confirm that the money was not used for a transaction. If this isn't the case, please contact our Help Centre or visit your nearest Money Market Counter for assistance.
Saving Stamps
How do savings stamps work?
Savings stamps are a convenient way to save on big grocery purchases. You can buy and keep your savings stamps in the app and use it to save on your shopping on big calendar days like Christmas or Easter.
Do I have to use my stamps before a certain time?
Savings stamps do not expire. They are stored in your Money Market Account until you're ready to use them.
Where can I use my savings stamps?
Savings stamps can be used at any Shoprite, Shoprite LiquorShop, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Checkers LiquorShop, Usave or Knect store.
Can I cash out my savings stamps?
Savings stamps cannot be cashed out but can be conveniently spent at any Shoprite, Shoprite LiquorShop, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Checkers LiquorShop, Usave or Knect. Store
Pay In Store
Can I make in-store purchases with the app?
Absolutely. You can use the app to pay with your savings stamps or your availabe cash in your wallet.
Can I perform repeat purchases?
Yes. The app saves your most recent prepaid electricity and airtime/data bundle purchases. You can also make quick repeat payments to contacts you send money regularly.
Tokens and QR Code
What is a token and how do I use it?
Tokens are generated when you send or receive cash to or from another Money Market Account user or when you pay for your groceries via the app. Tokens are used to validate your identity before committing the transaction.
How long do tokens take to expire?
Tokens for all transaction expire after 24 hours.
What is a QR Code?
Your QR code is a unique identifier for your account. View your QR code by signing in to the app and navigate to Receive Money. Anyone with a Money Market Account and app can scan your Money Market QR code to send you money.
My QR code won’t work.
Please contact our Help Centre if you have any issues with displaying your QR code to other Money Market Account users. If you are having issues with scanning someone else's QR code, please ensure that you allow the app to use your camera, that your camera lens is clean and that you follow the in-app instructions when scanning.
Saving Goals
What are savings goals?
Savings goals help you save up for big life events such as buying a car or saving up for an overseas trip. You can set as many goals as you like and add funds whenever convenient.
Gaming
Is it legal to place bets on the app?
Absolutely. Shoprite has partnered with Hollywood Bets, a reputable betting company, to make placing bets on sporting and other events quick, safe and easy.
